A thinking & planning exercise
Use this worksheet to guide your clients in considering several crucial questions.
Effective exit strategy planning will involve discussions regarding a number of different aspects of your client’s life – both professional and personal. A good plan will take into consideration not only the type of lifestyle they want to maintain well into a new phase of life, but also the lifestyle they wish to enjoy during their transition time. In addition, an effective plan will consider the needs of their immediate family and the needs of the business.
For instance:
- Have you developed a timeline for moving out of an active role in the Company? If so, what does this look like?
- Have you identified someone to replace you in the Company? If so, are you confidant that he/she has the knowledge, skills and training to adequately step into your position?
- When you consider transitioning away from the Company, what does this transition look like? Is it gradual or swift?
The main purpose of this exercise is to provide a stimulus for your client’s own thinking and planning.
